Some days, out of nowhere, I get a craving for something sweet. But I didn’t want to reach for a store-bought dessert or make something overly indulgent. I wanted something light, refreshing, and just naturally sweet. That’s when fruit custard popped into my mind—creamy, wholesome, and full of fresh flavors.
What I love about this is how easy it is to make with just a few ingredients. No fancy techniques, no unnecessary sugar—just thickened milk, soft sabudana, fresh fruits, and a crunchy topping of nuts. It’s the kind of dessert that feels satisfying without weighing you down. Here’s how I made it!
Ingredients
- 1 cup sabudana (sago pearls) – soaked for 5-6 hours
- 1 cup milk – boiled and thickened slightly
- 2 tsp sugar/honey/custard powder (optional) – I skipped this for a natural flavor
- Mixed fruits – apples, bananas, oranges, or any of your choice
- Nuts for topping – almonds, walnuts, cashews, and dates
Recipe
- Soak the sabudana for 5-6 hours until soft, then drain excess water.
- Boil the milk and let it thicken slightly. If you prefer sweetness, add sugar, honey, or custard powder and mix well.
- Add the sabudana to the milk and stir for a few minutes on low heat until well combined. Let it cool slightly.
- Chop your fruits into bite-sized pieces.
- Mix the fruits into the cooled milk mixture and stir gently.
- Top with nuts and enjoy warm or chilled for a refreshing dessert!
