Is This Culture Sustainable?

The world is changing fast. From a time when humans competed with other humans, we’re now challenged to compete with man-made technology too. This shift has created an uncertain work environment—people are being replaced, pressured to learn new skills, and forced to fit into evolving work models. The definition of an ideal workplace is constantly blurring, blending, and reshaping itself to suit the next generation.

As the popular quote goes, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Most of us spend more than half our day at work—and the people there influence us the most. Co-workers become friends, managers become role models, and leaders become influencers. Unlike our friends, though, we can’t always choose them. So, beyond our work ethics and skills, we have to constantly remind ourselves to filter the conversations and attitudes we absorb from this group. That can be exhausting—unless it becomes second nature.

Sometimes, I wonder if the culture of our generation is even sustainable. Our attention spans are shrinking to seconds, our reward cycles are instant, and our memories are short-lived. Everything evolves so fast that I can barely keep track. Yet, the examples we look up to—the innovators, creators, and leaders—spent years building solutions. Time was their biggest investment.

Whether it’s building habits, developing skills, or nurturing relationships, meaningful progress has always relied on deep effort and patience. But today, our world runs on speed and stimulation. The contrast between the two makes me question what’s truly right or worthwhile.

I’m not just confused—I’m genuinely puzzled.

If people keep switching roles so quickly, how do companies sustain long-term growth?

If our attention is limited to seconds of content, is it still worth spending years mastering a skill?

If everyone is glued to their digital spaces, how do we build real social connections?

The culture, the mindset, the expectations—they’re all shifting. And maybe that’s exactly why we need to pause, filter, and stay conscious of the world we’re shaping and living in.
